The Dare To Be You! Video Contest

About
The “Dare To Be You!” Video Contest is an opportunity for you to express your feelings about who you are and your experience being a LGBTQ person of color. The mission is to collect stories within the US and internationally from ordinary and predominate Black LGBTQ people of what it means to be true to themselves identifying as a Black LGBTQ person. Each person will tell a story about acknowledging or denying their gayness during a major key moment that changed their life. These stories are beyond the coming out stories. They are stories of social activism in every way from your family, career, community and/or world. The idea of this project is to redefine and dismantle the negative myth of being aLGBT people of African Descent and the word “gay”. We aim to breakdown stereotypes and misconceptions about gay being an illness brought on by non-people of color. We aim to address homophobia and all the isms along with being an LGBT people of African Descent from around the world. The idea is to learn how to accept our likes and dislikes our Black LGBTQ brothers and sisters and most importantly change the negative effects of identifying as a “gay” person. The top 5 videos will screen at the festival and the winner will receive FREE all access tickets to QBC Int’l Film & Music Festival 2008. The deadline is October 29th so hurry!
